“Ig?” Sebastian stood back while the two park rangers cuffed Aldo’s four acolytes. “Do you and Fen mind riding into Mammoth with these men? I don’t know where Aldo is, or how much strength he has, but we know he wants these four. Badly.”

Ig nodded. “Fen and I were planning to. I agree, and I don’t want to put two innocent men in danger because of the prisoners they’ve got. We need to make sure they’re kept in separate cells, too. Otherwise, Aldo might direct them to kill one another.”

“I hadn’t even thought of that. At least it’s only for a few more hours.” Sebastian sighed and then gazed toward Lily. She sat with Eve, holding the goddess’s hand, speaking quietly, but she pulled Sebastian into their link. As he’d guessed, Eve had been badly shaken by Aldo’s strength. She hadn’t expected the power the demon could wield, hadn’t thought he’d be able to overtake her in a battle.

He had. Without even putting forth much effort he’d captured Eve, held her within that evil mass of whatever substance he’d manifested. Anton had filled them all in on Jack’s theory. They’d agreed it made perfect sense, but Aldo had obviously been carefully guarding the power he’d stolen from the twelve dead Berserkers, and the death of Mary’s sister must have given him more strength than any of them had realized. Sebastian’s father had always been a mean and sneaky bastard. There was no reason for Sebastian to think he might have improved with death.

He glanced up as Ig and Fen stopped in front of him. “We’ve got the prisoners loaded in the van out front. Fen and I are going along with the rangers. Remington, too. He’s pretty woozy, poor man. We’re calling him our token FBI guy, but we’ll get him bandaged up, make our report, and then stay to keep an eye on him. And the prisoners.”

“What about the prisoners? When will they be turned over to us?” That had been the deal, after all. The president had told Anton that he and the Chanku Nation would be responsible for both the men and the demon, since dealing with demonkind was entirely out of the expertise of any branches of U.S. service. Not that the Chanku had all that much experience with demons either.

Precisely none, in fact.

“Tomorrow.” Fen glanced at Ig, who nodded. “We’ve been in contact with Anton, let him know Rem’s been injured. The women don’t have anything left to heal him. Holding the prisoners safe took a lot out of all of them. Star and Sunny will stay with us tonight. Tinker’s going to fly down in the chopper in the morning and we’ll grab Rem and take the men back then. Eve doesn’t want them on the astral. She said there’s some of Aldo in them, part of his spirit or something, but it’s a link that connects them to him. It presents too great a risk to let them have access, even as prisoners.
